ETH 2.0, greenwashing and a new standard
The NFT market naturally created a community of traders, collectors, investors, developers, artists and many other types of creators. The culture within this large community is complex as the space evolves at lightning speed. The one thing that's often rejected is solving the environmental problem of using Ethereum to trade, collect or mint NFTs.
The status quo in the real world is that NFTs are a problem because they emit dangerous CO2 emissions in the environment. However, this is due the lack of knowledge on how Ethereum and a proof-of-work blockchain works.
The most common answer to this is: "NFTs are not the problem, it's Ethereum and it will all be fixed when Eth 2.0 comes around". And it's true. However, ETH 2.0 is still some time away.
And should we really leave this problem in the hands of Vitalik Buterin?
Many NFT collections do make a difference by supporting charities and funding environmental efforts. However, many of them also leverage this strategy to attract more investors who want to see their capital invested in an environmental cause. This is known as greenwashing—a marketing strategy to persuade the public that an organisation's products are environmentally-friendly. In the NFT space, this results in a superficial vision and short-term hype.
SFTH adopts a new standard. A standard with no third parties and no greenwashing.
Stumpy Frens wants to redefine what making a positive impact in the space means by taking the matter in their own hands and leading their own environmental missions.
SFTH promotes an all hands on deck mentality. It brings an all-round conservation aspect to the space while still embracing all other aspects of NFT culture, as a profile picture collection that fosters community building through educational content, micro-communities, exclusive collaborations and giveaways for all holders.
